For a podcast featuring conversations w/ Texas legends and newsmakers, @WillieNelson has long been at the tippy-top of my Dream Guests list. Got him! Thanks to @LuckReunion & @alamodrafthouse the full interview from last week’s Rolling Roadshow in Luck: texasmonthly.com/podcast/willie…

Hard pass, always. But for those that do, it should be clearly noted in the piece itself that is was an email interview, even if most times readers can tell because answers read like a flack wrote em’ (and maybe actually did). twitter.com/hiattb/status/…

I don’t reply to all-staff multi-station emails, but if I was the all-reply type I’d point out that it’s rich that a morning talk show host who makes a living spewing repugnant far-right rhetoric could be so triggered by a vegetable. And is he gonna fight em’? https://t.co/nLlYnBkyLb

This morning we released it in its entirety. It’s basically a monologue and it’s both bonkers and profound. His struggle to square the music that made him a hip-hop icon and his spirituality is the primary focus of the conversation. I hope it adds some context to his chaotic life
In Feb. of 2013, I spent 40 or so minutes at Aryln Studios with Bushwick Bill for what we thought would be a @TexasMonthly profile. But when the album he was working on never came out, we moved on. The interview went unheard and untranscribed. It was just a file on my computer.

The streaming service never used the video. I thought it was the right kind of stupid fun + could’ve/should’ve been viral. Part of me hopes they dig it out of the vault. Either way, the way she humored what’s essentially a long dad joke, makes the kid more than alright by me.

We asked her and her mother if we could try it. Her mother said that while booking travel/hotels they often confuse her with a rep for Billy Idol, so she thought it’d be fun too. Billie’s idea was instead of answering, to just stare w/ contempt at me.
THREAD: Like you, I’m enjoying the @billieeilish album. Last June at Bonnaroo, I was freelancing for a major streaming service- interviewing artists for social media clips, bonus materials etc. Nearly everyone we told who’s coming by asked “Billy Idol? Wow.” So I had an idea..
She tell us that while she had a vague idea of who Billy Idol was, she’d never heard a moment of his music. We took her to a laptop and streamed her pieces of his greatest hits, told her about Generation X and used Google Photos to show her examples of the lip curl
I prepped a whole interview as if she was Billy Idol. Questions about the genesis/meaning of “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” “Eyes Without A Face”. There was so much swagger in the regular interview that we did first, I suspected she’d be game to answer these.
