There are still a few Mac mini's left (those not marked as Sold). I'll be announcing the URL tomorrow on @b2wshow so if you're interested, now's the time. danbenjamin.com/forsale/
The @rodemics Podmic looks really nice. Alas I won't be able to review one for you on my new podcaster's YouTube channel, because Rode has deemed me unworthy. Meantime, here's the website for the Podmic: rode.com/podmic

About 20 years ago I started a company building FreeBSD servers and workstations. We did a modest income, and eventually became a BeOS workstation VAR.
The Mac minis are selling faster than I expected. Two sold, several waiting to hear back. Still a handful left. danbenjamin.com/forsale/

I’m still searching for a small #linux notebook. Any recommendations? So far, suggestions have been “Get a $2k laptop from Dell/HP”, “just get a Chromebook”, and “just use Windows Subsystem for Linux” however I think y’all can do better.
.. yet BSD is what provided the foundation for Apple's move to Intel and macOS, and really iOS and tvOS. Are more people are using BSD than Linux ... without realizing it?
I started using Linux w/Slackware in '93 while deploying FreeBSD servers for my hosting company the same year. Linux felt like shaky beta software while FreeBSD was stable, reliable, solid. Now, everything is linux and I never hear about *BSD.
A paltry task for a being such as myself. twitter.com/hotdogsladies/…

Pro tip for #podcasting related startups: have at least one person in leadership who has been a podcaster for more than five years, who will understand what podcasters need and what listeners want. Podcasting isn’t about ads or monetization, even though you really want it to be.

PSA: Here’s a handy DCMA letter that Luminary must, by law, respond to immediately. It was created by my friend and @firesidefm customer @Vallieres and modified by me: docs.google.com/document/d/1lv…
Luminary’s “Contact Us About Your RSS Feed” page: “If you would like to remove your podcast from our community of hundreds of thousands of free podcasts[…]” We have to *ask them* to remove our podcasts from their “community” which we never wanted to join in the first place.
If Luminary’s mistakes weren’t so fundamentally smarmy and money-driven, you’d almost feel bad for them. Imagine coming out of the gates to this kind of reception. I guess understanding an industry and paying mindful attention to history pays off after all.
Gosh, @hearluminary has really messed up and doesn't seem to know when to stop. Removing show notes and donation links, and linking to CDN endpoints to circumvent download tracking, among other offenses, summarized nicely here: niemanlab.org/2019/04/lumina…
RT @not_horsemeat: @danbenjamin I hear their founding team is in full disguise now
Why does Luminary now either disguise or completely hide their user agent? I suspect it’s to make it harder for us to block them. It’s just a theory but I’m running with it.
Luminary is a good example of what happens when business and marketing people try to penetrate an industry they are clueless about. 100 million doesn’t guarantee success in this industry. Only a deep understanding of the medium, which must be earned by doing, will do.
We absolutely can ... and I’m thinking about it. twitter.com/DanBetcher/sta…
The worst part: Luminary doesn’t need to re-host *anything*. That’s what podcast hosting companies are for, and the fact that they do it at all and then in such a tone-deaf way illustrates that they haven’t learned any lessons from the backlash against others that have done this.
To be clear: this issue is not specific to @firesidefm, this is the primary way podcast downloads are tracked and processed.
Yes, because they are linking to the file (on the CDN) that download trackers redirect to *after* they’ve they’ve done their work. Luminary is circumventing the primary way podcast downloads are tracked. twitter.com/Awax/status/11…
FYI: @hearluminary's download mechanism circumvents @firesidefm's tracking, so any downloads from Luminary won't be tracked, counted, analyzed, or reported.
